Here are some of the "tricks"of the trade which can help you sell more of your product.

Offer an inexpensive bonus item:

It is surprising how offering an inexpensive (cheap in monetary terms but not in value!) bonus can increase your sales considerably.

Why is this?

It is just human nature. We all love to get something extra especially if it is free. So by offering a bonus your prospect is more inclined to buy especially if the offer is only for a limited time.

Coupled with a good guarantee a bonus has been shown to increase sales significantly. So what sort of bonus should you consider offering to your prospects? I hope it goes without saying that the bonus should be in the same niche as your product. It would be pointless giving a bonus related to motor racing to people interested in improving their dart playing capabilities!

The bonus you offer should have a strong perceived value to your prospect. The art is to offer something where the perceived value is high but the cost to you is quite low. Not always easy!

Accentuate the obvious:

Eh?

Please bear in mind that something which may be obvious to you might not be to your prospect. Sometimes because something is so obvious we tend to overlook it. If one of your selling points is obvious it doesn't mean that you should ignore it in your promotion. This is a mistake that many internet marketers make.

So even if something is "obvious" if it is important then make sure that you accentuate the advantages in your copy.

Offer a sample of your product

If you are selling information products then giving away a few pages of your information can work wonders. Surely you are proud of your information? Then prove it by offering a few pages to your prospects free of charge so that they can judge the quality of your work. Sampling is a proven method of increasing sales as you will see if you visit a food trade exhibition. You can sample all sorts of different foods there and it obviously works otherwise it would not be such a popular way of pitching sales.

It is important that at the end of your sample literature in whatever form it is in (print, video tape etc) you explain how the prospect can get more information. Also make it easy for them! The easier it is to purchase the more likely they are to buy from you.

Long copy outsells short copy.

I have to come clean here. I can't stand receiving a long sales pitch either by post or over the internet. I groan every time I open such a proposal. But hey we are all different I am obviously in the minority because experience has shown that long copy always outsells short copy.

I suppose if you really think about it if someone came to your house to sell you a conservatory you would expect them to spend some time with you so that you could get all the information you need. You certainly wouldn't want them to give a five minute sales pitch and then expect you to purchase. The same argument applies to selling information products over the internet. People want as much information as possible before committing themselves.

So what length should your copy be?

Drum roll please! Whatever length it takes to do a complete selling job! No longer, no shorter.

However a four page letter tends to be used by most internet marketers.

Make sure that you use a post script?

This is, of course, the p.s's you see at the end of the sales copy. For some reason this has been proven to have a very favourable impact on increasing sales. You can use various p.s's in your copy. In many cases it is a call to immediate action etc but just study other peoples to get the hang of it and make sure you do something similar.

I hope that the above help you understand how the little additions to your copy can make all the difference to your success as an internet marketer.
