Your Patio Needs You!

By: Kenny F Leichester

One can say that having a garden can be troublesome and also a joy. A beautiful garden will evidently increase the value of the house.

The are two ways in which a garden can be created. The garden can be added on to what has already existed in your home. It can also be constructed from scratch meaning a strong structure will have to be build in order to support the potted flower plants, small palm trees, ponds that will have fishes also the furniture set. You can just imagine how surreal the sight will be.

There is a few disadvantage by going for this option. Your garden will be too structured and once you have the layout like this, changing it will require another major renovation work. You can skip this option and go for the add-ons. This is much easier to have and you can change the layout of your garden without too much hard work. This can be achieve by having wood-based garden accessories such as the pergola.

You will see that you can enjoy all this hard work and effort. You will first need to acquire some knowledge on gardening and put on your creative hat. Once the garden takes form, you will be satisfied and only then can you appreciate all the sweat your poured into it even if it does take some time to see the garden in full bloom.

What do you need aside from a pergola? Buying some patio umbrellas might be a good idea, as some form of shade would help not only in the work you are doing but also provide protection to the potted flower plants which would form the bulk of your garden decor.

It might not be a good idea to over-plant your garden for it does not always translate well on the ground unlike in your head. There are many things to consider such as the size of the plant as they mature as well as the attention they require from you.

Boundaries can be created by having potted plants. You can also have wooden rods for they don't interfere of your open spaces unlike the metal rods. They can also be taken apart and recycled later when you want to try another look.

Another good thing about wood based garden accessories are that they can be moved elsewhere when you need them to. Need a wider space in your garden? Use the space that was previously occupied by the furniture set.

Caring here means amongst other, trimming the plants of dead leaves, dried up flowers, cutting of branches to control it from growing too much too fast. If you opted for a natural garden patio, the grass also needs to be trimmed regularly so that it maintains its length to a comfortable height.

Growth of unwanted weeds would have to be controlled too. Once they start to proliferate, your beautiful garden could be overrun by these fast growing plants.

Watering the plants are best done during the mornings and later evening for these are the times when the plants will use water effectively. Mother nature also gives an advantage to humans as they will not be required to be out in the sun to nurture their plants.

For the places where the sun does not shine all year round, homeowners can opt for outdoor heaters to provide them with the warmth they need. This is to ensure full utilization of the garden patio as well as provide the opportunity to enjoy the cold air.

Take care however to operate the patio heaters only when needed. Just like the air conditioner, such heaters are inefficient at best. They are after all, heating open spaces. The heat generated would dissipate easily if the temperature is far too low but when the weather is too extreme, one doubts if the owners would leave the cold comforts of the plush indoors.

Be ready to move when the weather pattern breaks as it would undoubtedly mean some major work on your part for the patio garden is again in need of some tender loving care and nurturing.
